A collection of original, vintage collecting cards arranged on painted canvas with a three-dimensional element. The work is mounted behind glass within a dark brown, wooden frame.
Featuring hand drawn images of British wildflowers, these cards were produced by the Brooke Bond Tea Company in the 1960’s and have been gathered from a variety of sources. Brought together, they create a repetitious pattern reminiscent of printed fabric or wallpaper when viewed from a distance. Some columns are raised whilst others are adhered flat to the canvas.
The individual history of each card is evident in the marks, creases or worn edges and the general aesthetic of the illustrations is typical of mid-century graphic design.
