Vintage magazine covers, painted wood & acrylic paint on canvas
103 x 103cm
A combination of vintage magazine covers, acrylic paint and painted wood on canvas. The work is mounted behind conservation glass within a dark brown, wooden frame.
Using segments of Do It Yourself magazine covers from the 1950’s, this geometric patterned piece combines these with painted sections of canvas and wooden strips. The large painted sections of vibrant colour compliment the colours featured in the printed material. Inspired by British post-war architecture, the pattern resembles a building with windows displaying people’s hands undertaking household projects.
This work is directly influenced by mid-century modernism and evokes a sense of nostalgia for a bygone era.
