Caroline Chinakwe
Caroline Chinakwe is a Nigerian-born, London-based mixed media artist known for her bold, vibrant visuals that celebrate gender, blackness, and confront social injustice. A graduate of the University of Arts London, she began her career in fashion, working as a garment technologist, designer, and stylist before transitioning into art. Caroline’s latest collection, Colourism was inspired by the Black Lives Matter movement and explores the privilege of lighter skin within the Black community.
Drawing on her 20 years of fashion experience, Caroline uses a mix of mediums, including photography, acrylics, and digital collaging, to create powerful, unique works that combine contemporary fashion with traditional cultural elements. As a mother of three, her art is also a personal mission to inspire future generations and challenge the lack of diversity in fashion media. Her work has been praised by industry leaders, including Christene Barberich, Hannah O'Leary, and Erykah Badu. Caroline aims to spark conversations about the beauty and diversity of Black skin.
