Ibi Meier-Oruitemeka (IMO) currently resides in a small seaside town in Sussex with her partner and two children. Earlier this year, she woke up with a new creative calling—painting. After sharing her work online, within a week, her paintings had sold out, leading to the launch of Studio IMO. Art is a new endeavour for Ibi, though she explains she has always felt a deep connection to it “I’ve always loved drawing as a way to process my feelings and emotions,” she says. Until recently her focus was exclusively on monochrome sketches, never experimenting with paint or colour. Āto Naoki is the newest artist to join us at Images In Frames, we are very excited to welcome him to our walls! Āto is an emerging artist who recreates the traditional art of Japanese woodblocks by incorporating contemporary characters and references into his pieces. Produced in their many thousands and hugely popular during the Edo period (1615 – 1868), colourful woodblock prints, known as Ukiyo-e, depict scenes from everyday Japan. Naoki usesthese scenes as a backdrop for his new artwork, for example, placing the characters from the video game Street Fighter on a traditional woodblock print of a Japanese street.
